Epilepsy Wellness School aims to empower adults living with epilepsy to live their best lives. We do this by providing evidence-based education that equip participants with the tools and skills needed to effectively manage the challenges associated with having epilepsy. Research shows that traditional healthcare services for adults living with epilepsy have struggled to consistently provide adequate educational and supportive services. We seek to change that by offering affordable, convenient access to tailored education designed to target the challenges commonly experienced by adults with epilepsy.
A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT
First of all, I have had epilepsy for over 40 years, and have adequately dealt with both physical and mental effects of it. I am a hard-working professional in a stressful demanding occupation that I have been engaged in for 40 years as well.
I found the course beneficial from the ‘get-go’ in that first it educated me enough to have a basic understanding of what classification ‘types’ of seizures and how they present and what possible tendencies individuals who have epilepsy might experience. Hank H.
So very Knowledgeable and caring.
I met Dr. Kamau today while taking my son for his consultation. She is fantastic. I don't think I have ever heard an explanation of my son's condition as great as hers. As a mother looking for answers to my son's condition, it gives me great relief listening to her talk. She understood and explained every concern I had. She listens and that is so important to me. It gives me confidence my son is in good hands and I think we are on the right path to good health with her.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi! my name is Dr. Catherine Kamau, APRN -DNP. I have worked with and cared for people with epilepsy on multiple levels for over 20 years now. Initially, I was a Registered Nurse at Medical City Dallas in Neurology ICU and later became an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in Epilepsy in 2006. I obtained my Doctorate in Nursing Practice Degree in 2019 in order to advance my passion for epilepsy education.
I am especially passionate about Epilepsy Wellness which is the idea of enabling patients to live well and have fully productive lives despite the diagnosis. I guide patients with epilepsy through complex issues such as pregnancy and childbearing with epilepsy, memory problems of epilepsy, mood disorders associated with epilepsy, and overall disease management issues such as how other diseases and medications affect one’s epilepsy medications.
I am also fluent in Swahili, so I participate in raising awareness, teaching, and improving treatments for epilepsy in Kenya through a non-profit ministry named Epilepsy Wellness Inc. I also volunteer as a speaker for epilepsy treatment education in schools and conferences.
